This classroom based assessment is carried out on the completion of the RYA SRC/VHF course.

This assessment is a pre-requisite for candidates taking either their RYA/MCA Yachtmaster Coastal or RYA/MCA Yachtmaster Offshore Certificate of Competence examinations.

This can be taken at a time to suit you with Yorvik Sailing and is a combination of a written theory test and practical assessment in the use of VHF DSC radios. Candidates must be 16 years or older on the day of the exam. There is an exam fee payable directly to the RYA.

After the successful completion of this exam you will be issued with the “United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland Certificate of Competence and Authority to Operate”.

Course content
Basics of radio operation, correct channel use, distress/ emergency procedures, ship to shore telephone calls, DSC calling using simulators, Global Maritime Distress and Safety System, EPIRB and Search and Rescue (SART)
After course ability
Able to legally operate a SRC/VHF marine radio.
